Why Don't People Do The Things They Say They Want to Do?

by Susan C. DaffronProtected by Copyscape. Do not copy.

Many people say they want to write a book, but they never do. In much the same way, people often say they want to spend more time with family, or they want to travel around the world.

I hear so many people expressing big dreams that are never realized, and it makes me sad. I often wonder why so many people don't actually DO any of the things they say they want to do.

The typical excuses I hear include: I'm too busy. I don't have enough time. I don't have enough money. I'm not a good writer. I don't have enough vacation days.

However, many people actually do pull off their big dreams. As noted, I've written books, so I've realized that dream. But I've never taken two months off and gone on a road trip around the country.

My sister did exactly that last summer. How did that happen? She simply decided she did have enough money, and she did have enough time. Instead of deciding the dream was impossible, she figured out how to make it happen.

Of course, realizing a dream doesn't just happen. It takes effort. My sister did have to work out some logistics, which included finding a place for her cats to live for two months. As it turns out, there is such a thing as long-term cat boarding. She never would have known that if she hadn't made the decision to just go for her dream. She then told her landlord she was leaving her apartment; she put her furniture into storage, and hit the open road.

Now 6,000 miles later, the cats are fine, and my sister has some great memories. Taking off for two months is not something a lot of people would be willing to do. It takes work and a willingness to open your mind to a new way of thinking.

Everyone has the same 60 minutes in every hour and 24 hours in every day to use. Whether you want to travel or be a book author, how can you be "too busy" to follow your dream?
